A new season is here! And nope, I am not talking about Spring. Which is ironic considering I spent yesterday doing yard work in a pair of shorts totally enjoying the 70 degree weather. It’s crazy too, because this warm Sunday was the end to a totally strange week filled with SNOW DAYS. Yes, snow days. But that’s Louisiana. One days it is snowing, and the next we are sun bathing. I digress. It’s CARNIVAL SEASON!
Today’s post is in celebration of the Carnival Season. Down south we live for all things Mardi Gras. The parades, the king cake, the fancy masquerade balls, and for me, the decorations. In southern Louisiana, it seems as though as soon as the Christmas decorations come down, the Mardi Gras decorations go up. With the carnival season comes a whole new mood down here. People are happy, excited, and ready to par-tay!
Whether you live in Louisiana or not, getting into the Mardi Gras spirit can be fun for you too. Here are a few little sparkly touches I added to my home. GEAUX purple, green, and gold!
My Mardi Gras mantle: A trip to my local craft store and I was all set. Keep in mind, decorations should not cost you an arm and a leg. I love me some 40% off coupons for Hobby Lobby! And if there is one holiday where there is no such things as too much glitter, this would be it. So get wild with it.
I just love this little burlap flag banner. It was also a Hobby Lobby find and with a coupon, girl, it was a steal!
I snatched up 2 of these masks for $1 each. They were just plain cardboard so I slapped on some paint, and glitter of course. It took 10 minutes and was a great deal cheaper than purchasing one already done-up.
Purple deco-mesh is a great space filler.
Hobby Lobby had some pretty Mardi Gras cones. However, when I noticed that the craft styrofoam cones were half-off, I figured it might be a nice way to save money. So, I went the DIY route. And if I am being honest, ugh, I wish I would have just payed for the ready-made cones. By the time my trees were complete…my living room, and body, was covered in glitter. Glitter that gets into the tiniest nooks and crannies. Not fun to clean up.
Because FEATHERS are FUN!
Don’t forget the little touches. These darling guest towels are from Cottage Nest Interiors. $7.50. How cute?
Adorn your walls with this gorgeous watercolor from Emily Newman. 12″x18″ New Orleans Mardi Gras City Skyline with Superdome Watercolor $99
But don’t stop there! Because we all gotta dress the part. Hit the parades looking cute and comfy in this Perlis number. Chest Stripe Mardi Gras Rugby Dress $95
…or top your look off with a festive scarf like this one from Kate Spade.$128. Sold!
So let’s all get geared up for Mardi Gras and…
