Happy Hallo-SCREAM!

Hey y’all!

Happy Halloween to all! The eve of All Saints’ Day has finally arrived and I am just tickled.  I don’t know if it is just me, but there is something about Halloween that just puts me in the best mood.  There is an aura around.  It’s the ambiance,  the whole vibe of the thing.  It is almost intoxicating.  Almost.  That’s what the Pumpkin Spice Punch is for.  (Check it out below).  But, in truth, I adore this time of year and all the things that come along with it.  I might be the only semi-adult out there that still enjoys, with great pleasure, watching “Hocus Pocus” and “Halloweentown.”  Both true classics.  Even so, I am at that in-between age now.  That age where I am quite obviously way too old to go Trick-or-Treating, but I do not have kids to take Trick-or-Treating yet.  Oh, and there’s something about wearing a costume (that I most likely slaved over and poured every ounce of my creativity into) to a night club with a bunch of girls dressed up as some kind of sexy animal, that just does not appeal to me.  Though I have tried, a few times.  So for now, we stay in and have some of our lovely friends over.  Because Lord knows I did not work this hard to make my home look ready for Fall, not to show it off to someone!

I love the idea of a dark and gothic theme for Halloween decor.  Think “The Addams Family.”  It is eccentric and it’s a fun change-up from your typical smiling jack-o-lanterns.  Take a peek at some of the things that got me inspired for “Halloween-at-home” this year.

Terrariums are very “in” right now, so it might be something you already have on-hand.  If so, fill the inside with some spooky knick-knacks and you are good to go.  Place on an entry-way table or even as a center piece on your table-scape.  The best part is, once Halloween is over, you can fill it with moss and acorns for Thanksgiving or evergreens and baubles for Christmas.

Candied apples: the quintessential Halloween snack! And displayed in a fabulously elegant manner.

I love the non-traditional, “Addams Family,” interpretation of Halloween Camille Styles used for her lovely table scape.

Now, how about that Pumpkin Spice Punch I promised?

Fall Fancies

It’s Fall y’all! And for me, that means one thing. DECORATING FUN!  With the temperature outside dropping, this is no doubt, my absolute most-favorite time of the year.  Probably in large part, because I live in Louisiana, and I’m just sick and tired of being hot all of the time! So with things being a bit more comfortable, I just adore being able to spruce things up for myself and for my clients, all in the spirit of Autumn.

When it comes to seasonal decorating, it does NOT have to be a high-dollar affair.  Whether the budget be low, or otherwise, there are plenty are fabulous options out there to get your home looking festive for Fall!

Here are a few tips and tricks…

I love displaying an abundance of of different pumpkins and gourds.  I just ooze for the misshaped and warty pumpkins, green and white ones too!  Have fun with it! Display pumpkins don’t all have to be bright orange and symmetrical.  And a little secret…You will save a small fortune by getting your pumpkins and gourds at a local grocery store instead of at the pumpkin patch (a lesson I learned the hard way).

Another option that will have your home looking fabulous this Fall is a free one!  Yea, I said  FREE.  And even better, it’s simple.  BRANCHES.  I have always loved branches in a vase.  It is a timeless touch that can be reinterpreted for any season. Step out into your backyard and snatch up a handful of branches and sticks.  Plop them in a vase and voila! I say “plop.”  What I mean by that, is arrange carefully in a way that appears to others as effortless. :)

I love these branches wrapped in yarn.  It adds a festive pop of color, and a playful detail to an Autumn table.

These branches still have the leaves on them.  They say, “This table is comfortable, casual, and rustic.  But still bold, vibrant, and cozy.”

Autumn Branches

Here are a few simple Autumn accents that will have your home feeling cozier for cool weather, and won’t put you in the “poor-house” in the process.

So have some fun this Fall!

Gaga for Gifting

Hey y’all!

Hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday.  I sure am.  Things have been busy over here at An Orderly Abode.  But no complaints. Busy is good (knock on wood)!  I have been working with a local magazine on my new add that will be coming out in their Christmas edition, yay. Right as things were wrapping up with the Christmas add, the editor asked me if I would be interested in contributing to their Valentine’s Day special.  Um, duh.  Well apparently, they are doing a story on the perfect Valentine’s Day and everything that goes into making it special.  Personally, I’m not into all of that lovely dovey, flirty dirty, ooh la la nonsense.  Yeah right.  It might be shameful to admit, but aren’t we all kind of into it? At least a little bit?

So it was with one nights notice, that I was to come up with what I thought was a pretty option for anyone in the giving mood on The Day of Love.   And of course, because I am so shamefully indecisive, I wrapped two gifts.  I figured better safe than sorry, right?  When I brought them in to the magazine editor the next day, she instantly chose her favorite and whisked it away for shooting.  She liked the one with the red bow, and pearls. Swanky. I’ll show y’all both and see which one you like!
